My dad grrr.

My parents have ben divorced for a few years, so now I'm used to it. This weekend I'm going to my dad's house.. I'm not really looking forward to it. He treats me like a little girl, and whenever I watch a show that has 'romance' in it, he totally freaks out and goes "IS THAT GONNA BE YOU ONE DAY?!" im just like "Dad.. I'm growing up.." and he just keeps saying "blah blah blah. boys are icky. blah blah blah." and I just agree with him. He always asks me about the boys in all my classes, and if he looks at my phone and sees a boy name he's like "WHO ARE YOU TEXTING?!" it gets really annoying. He treats me like a little girl, and I'm just so mad. He's embarrassed me in front of my friends, especially my guy friends. Whenever he sees me with a guy, he goes "HEY, SONNIE, JUST SO YOU KNOW, I TOOK FOOTBALL IN COLLEGE! SHE HAS 2 OLDER BROTHERS!" -sigh- I really hate it. He calls me "princess, sweetie," and it's just.. so embarrassing and makes me so mad. I'm growing up, but he can't accept that D:< I get it's hard to let go, but I'm not even moving out yet.. Im not old enough to drive, get a job, nothing.. I just want to live my life l:

Oh my gosh. I feel soo bad for you!!! D: But I think I may have some solutions...

-About the TV shows- I'm not exactly sure what type of 'romance' you are talking about, but if it's just regular like kissing and hugging and dating and stuff...THAT'S NORMAL!!! So when your dad asks if that's gonna be you one day, just say, "Yes dad. It is gonna be me one day."

-When he says boys are icky and stuff- If you are a complete smart alek (like me xD), then you can say, "Boy dad! I'm sure glad you think that, and not that women are icky." but if you want to say it politely just say, "Well actually boys are quite cool."

-About the texting problem- OMG I AM SO SENSITIVE WHEN IT COMES TO MY PARENTS LOOKING AT MY PHONE!!! I mean, sure I text boys!!! OF COURSE I DO!!! But they are like some of my best friends! Not some guy off the street that I have a crush on! Plus, I text my friends about private girl stuff, so I HATE HATE HATE IT when they look at my phone!!! But in your case...I would just change the boy's Contact names to like random girl names. If he asks who they are, just say they're some girls in your neighborhood. I know it's lying, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, ya know?

-About the embarrassment in public- Umm...there's really nothing you can do about that. What I would do is make a joke out of it, or show your friends that you're SUPER embarrassed. They're your friends...they'll understand. here are two phrases you could use. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!!! Ugh, my dad is just soo embarrassing, he's just impossible to deal with!" They'll probably just say something uplifting like, "Don't be embarrassed, your dad is actually pretty cool...compared to MY folks!" Or option two: "OOKAY then dad! Look, you better watch out...HE GOT FOOTBALL SKILLZ!!!" xD

-About the cute names- He's your dad. He loves you. My dad never, ever, EVER calls me sweetie in my entire life...well once he did. And I cried and cried after hearing that because I just liked hearing it so much, because I was never called that. So as long as that doesn't get out of hand, like he does it WAY too much in public or anything, I don't think you need to worry. but if it does get out of hand, just ask him to stop. he's your dad. He'll understand. :]
